Dr. Don Cross received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Missouri in Developmental Psychology with a focus on human learning. After receiving his B.A, Dr. Cross moved to Florida and began his career working with abused children, initially working for the Florida Baptist Children's Homes. He left there and assumed a position as a Group Treatment Leader at a State of Florida Residential Facility for juvenile delinquents. Dr. Cross quickly moved up the ranks and was soon the Superintendent of his facility, making him the youngest person to ever hold that position with the Department of Children, Youth and Families. He was soon recognized for his program development and was assigned to assist other residential facilities in their treatment program development.
After receiving training focused on writing legal policy and procedures, he was assigned auditing responsibilities as well. Dr. Cross would audit facility operations for compliance with the American Correctional Associations standards. Where lacking, Dr. Cross would then produce new operating procedures to ensure compliance. This was Dr. Cross' introduction to the field of compliance and auditing.
Following his survival of a severe auto accident which prevented him from working for several months, he decided to change careers. He returned to St. Louis and attended Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. Cross graduated with various honors in 1995 and returned to Florida to begin private practice. During his 20 years in private practice he was very active within the profession and served as President of his local area chiropractic society and later was elected to the Board of Directors of the Florida Chiropractic Association. Dr. Cross served on the FCA Board for the next 12 years and was elected to all Board positions, including President.
During his tenure with the FCA he began providing continuing education training to field doctors in Florida, and later other states. His primary focus was government regulations and documentation. Dr. Cross continued his education while he was in practice and received diplomats and was awarded fellowships in recognition of his commitment.
Leaving full time practice Dr. Cross assumed an associate professorship at Palmer College of Chiropractic – Florida in 2012. He continues his teaching at Palmer with an educational focus on practice management and government regulations. While at Palmer Dr. Cross finished his training and subsequently passed the examination to become a Certified Professional Compliance Officer through the world's largest association of coders and compliance specialist, the American Association of Professional Coders. Dr. Cross has now sold his business and left active practice and is focusing full time on teaching and his consulting business.
